Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trevor Reese! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Sapp! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reese fails with a takedown attempt. Reese throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Sapp's corner calls for a 1-2. Sapp obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Reese drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sapp is looking to regain half guard here but Reese keeps moving and retains side control. Sapp is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Reese works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Reese is looking to take a break and control but Sapp is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Reese working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Reese landing strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sapp tries to bench press Reese off him but Reese keeps the position. Reese lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sapp down.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sapp can do anything to dispel that myth. Reese trying to control the position but Sapp is working away. Reese has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Reese scores with a takedown into Sapp's guard. Reese has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Reese gets to his feet - Sapp follows without any prompting.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Sapp. No joy for Reese on that attempt. The fight moves into the clinch position. A short right hand to the side of the head by Reese. Reese has hold of one of Sapp's legs. Sapp is fighting the takedown attempt but Reese gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Reese postures up and lands a big shot to Sapp's brow. Reese trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sapp looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reese is one step ahead there. Reese wants to control from the top but Sapp keeps moving. Reese passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reese works his foot free and advances to mount. Sapp looks gassed! Reese landing strikes, looking to finish! Reese controlling his opponent. Reese really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Reese lands a nice shot to the head. Sapp is working to get back to half guard.
Reese will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Reese tries to control but Sapp wriggling away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reese fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Reese working for a submission but Sapp is keeping him at bay. Reese looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reese lands a big elbow. Sapp is squirming around, avoiding Reese's attempts to control the action. Sapp sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Sapp is trying to get back to full guard. Sapp is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Reese jumps into side control! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Reese working the ground and pound. Sapp tries to bench press Reese off him but Reese keeps the position. Reese scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sapp to see if he's OK. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sapp takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Reese scores a takedown into full mount! Sapp is still in real trouble! Can Reese finish him? Reese working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Reese is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sapp can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Reese. Sapp is desperately trying to improve his position but Reese has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Reese looking to control but Sapp is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Reese controlling his opponent. Reese unloading with bombs! Sapp is in a horrible position here. Reese smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Trevor Reese overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reese jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sapp manages to avoid the submission attempt. Sapp is looking for a sweep. Reese has knee on belly and moves into mount. Sapp working to try and regain half guard.
Sapp is bucking up trying to escape but Reese cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Reese is landing with some decent strikes but Sapp is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Reese connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reese tries to control but Sapp wriggling away. Reese controlling from the full mount. Reese scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Reese quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Reese but it's paid off an Sapp is forced to tap! Nice work by Reese.
