Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fred Nail!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leon Shannon!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nail fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nail moves to clinch but Shannon breaks away

so Shannon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shannon looking to pass the guard.
Shannon passes into half guard.
Nail wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shannon tries to pass to full mount but Nail defends it.

Shannon is looking for a kimura but Nail is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shannon to get the leverage.

Shannon wants to work for an arm triangle but Nail is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shannon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Shannon seems to be looking for submissions.
Shannon frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Nail is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Shannon working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Nail is looking to get to half guard.

Nail defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Shannon.

Shannon is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Nail has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Nail!

Nail got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shannon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nail has managed to get both his arms back between Shannon's legs - danger averted.

Shannon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nail defends it easily.
Nail in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nail looking to sit in guard and control but Shannon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Shannon slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Nail is trying to control Shannon's posture but Shannon avoids it.

Shannon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nail is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shannon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leon Shannon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Nail dives in and scores a takedown into Shannon's guard.

Shannon is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Nail is forced to tap! Great finish!
