Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pat Gibs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machida moves into the clinch successfully.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Machida avoids the attempt from Gibs to control.

Machida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gibs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gibs's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gibs had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Machida is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Gibs Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Machida's back instead.
