Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thor Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brice Benoit!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benoit is looking to clinch.
Emelianenko tries to clinch there but Benoit circles away.
Benoit tries to clinch but Emelianenko is having none of it.
Emelianenko leaves Benoit with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown but Benoit shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Emelianenko shoots in but Benoit avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Benoit as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Benoit is looking to clinch but Emelianenko is avoiding it.
Benoit swinging wildly here.
Emelianenko defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Benoit.

Benoit closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Emelianenko slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Benoit looking to pass the guard.
Benoit seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Emelianenko is trying to keep Benoit in close.
Emelianenko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Benoit stopping the sweep attempt from Emelianenko.
Benoit is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
It looks like Benoit might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Thor Emelianenko.
Emelianenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Benoit is trying hard to land a takedown here. Emelianenko sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Benoit misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Emelianenko instigates a clinch.
Benoit tries to pull guard but Emelianenko holds him up against the ropes and eventually Benoit drops back down to his feet.
Benoit is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Benoit tries a knee to the head but Emelianenko blocks it.
Benoit is trying to maintain a safe position but Emelianenko gets an underhook and turns Benoit into the ropes.
Benoit is trying to break the clinch but Emelianenko is controlling him.
Emelianenko is looking for a takedown.
Benoit tries for a takedown. No joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Benoit can't break the clinch.

Emelianenko pulls Benoit into guard.
Emelianenko looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Emelianenko is breathing heavily.
Benoit postures up in Emelianenko's guard and throws a big left but Emelianenko blocks it.
Benoit passes Emelianenko's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Emelianenko is not content to let Benoit control the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Emelianenko wants to control the action here but instead Benoit manages to pass to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brice Benoit dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Benoit darts in trying to clinch

so Emelianenko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Benoit keeps moving.
Emelianenko wants to get up but he can't break Benoit's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Benoit pushes a forearm under Emelianenko's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Emelianenko is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Brice Benoit!
