PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Markakis!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markakis fails with the takedown.
Markakis takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Markakis circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Markakis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Markakis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Markakis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.

Jones pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Markakis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jones prevents it.

Jones jumps guard and drags Markakis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Markakis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jones wants to stand up but Markakis is controlling him.
Markakis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dennis Markakis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Markakis clinches.

Markakis tries to pull guard but Jones forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Markakis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Markakis has Jones pushed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Markakis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Markakis drives through with a takedown into Jones's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Jones looking to control but Markakis is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Markakis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Markakis is wriggling around trying to escape.
Markakis wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

Jones wants to control the pace but Markakis is squirming around nicely.
Markakis tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Markakis tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control.
Markakis manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Markakis is trying to control but Jones manages to pass to mount!

I've got Markakis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
