PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Anton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brendan Conlon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mike Anton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brendan Conlon!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conlon takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Conlon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Anton, pushing him back against the cage.
Anton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Conlon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Anton fails with the takedown

and Conlon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Anton!
The referee warns Anton that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Anton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Conlon on the ground.
Conlon fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Conlon looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Conlon trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Conlon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Conlon is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Anton to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Anton shrugs it off.
Anton tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Anton tries to lock up and control but Conlon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Conlon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Anton in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Conlon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Anton is wriggling around trying to escape.

Anton tries to lock up and control but Conlon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Conlon wants to control the pace but Anton is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Conlon landing punches.

Conlon working for a submission but Anton is keeping him at bay.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Conlon stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Conlon closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Conlon lands in his opponent's guard.

Conlon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Anton's guard.

Anton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brendan Conlon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Conlon shoots in and bounces Anton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Anton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Conlon is one step ahead there.
Conlon forces his way into half guard.
Brendan Conlon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Anton is trying is best to control the position here.
Conlon uses his free foot to push down on Anton's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Anton.

Anton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Conlon is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Conlon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Conlon wants it to stay on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Conlon misses with a series of wild punches.
Anton tries for a takedown but Conlon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Conlon tries to clinch up but Anton circles away and keeps his distance.
Conlon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Anton swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Conlon shoots in looking for a takedown but Anton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Conlon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Anton throws a combination. Conlon tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Anton drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Conlon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Conlon is concentrating on defense, preventing Anton from advancing position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Anton is thwarting Conlon's attempts to control the position.
Conlon gets back to full guard.

Conlon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Anton defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Conlon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Anton wants to pass the guard but Conlon is keeping the position.
Conlon is pulling down on Anton's head to control his posture.
Conlon manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brendan Conlon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Anton avoids a kick to the body.
Anton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Conlon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Anton somewhat.
Conlon fails to land with a series of punches.
Anton shoots in looking for a takedown. Conlon tries to sprawl out of it but Anton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Conlon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Conlon displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Anton throws out the jab.

Conlon closes the distance and clinches.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Conlon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Conlon wants to clinch up but Anton keeps it at a distance.
Anton pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Conlon avoids a kick to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Anton.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Anton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Conlon counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Anton's guard now.
Anton can't keep his opponent in guard - Conlon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Anton is looking for a sweep. Conlon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Conlon content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Conlon gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Conlon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Anton did well to prevent Conlon getting side control.

Anton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Conlon in particular looking to stall.
Conlon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Anton keeps working.

Brendan Conlon has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Conlon throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Anton tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Conlon is in Anton's guard.
Conlon works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Anton is in trouble now - Conlon has advanced to mount!
Conlon with shots to the head and body - Anton looks very uncomfortable down there.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I've got Conlon winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
