PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Silver Boo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Merrick Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boo comes to the cage accompanied by BLUNT- The Iron Maiden. Kane has chosen Blood Sugar - Pendulum as his entrance music. Merrick Kane told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Silver Boo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

21 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Merrick Kane!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kane circles away quickly and effectively.
Boo throws a series of punches but Kane avoids them all with ease.
Boo misses with a two punch combination.
Boo throws a poor cross that misses
and Kane counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Boo scores with a nice right hand.
Kane thumps Boo with a low kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boo jabs Kane to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Kane works Boo's body with a nice hook.
Boo is breathing heavily.
Kane lands a nice looking body shot.
Kane closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ground and pound from Kane.
Kane is trying to control. Boo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kane works his foot free and advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kane cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Kane lands a big elbow.
Boo is in a horrible position here. Kane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Kane fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Boo takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kane lands a heavy elbow.
Kane thowing shots but they're missing.
Kane is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Boo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Boo shrugs it off.
Kane trying to control but Boo is having none of it.

Kane controlling the pace for now.
Boo working to try and regain half guard.
Kane looking to control but Boo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Boo in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Boo tries to reverse the position but Kane maintains control.
Kane breaks from Boo's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Boo is squirming around, avoiding Kane's attempts to control the action.
Kane avoids the attempt from Boo to control.
Kane is landing with some decent strikes but Boo is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kane unloads with some shots from mount but Boo bucks and avoids them well.
Kane goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Boo turns into him and now he's in Kane's guard.
Boo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kane looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Boo has picked Kane up and slammed him! Kane can't keep hold of the triangle and Boo manages to pass to side control!
Kane regains half guard.
Boo wants to pass to mount but Kane is defending the position.
Kane looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kane slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Merrick Kane dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Boo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kane counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kane uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boo.
Kane ducks under a wild hook from Boo.
A jab from Boo misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kane.
Boo jabs Kane right on the nose. Kane blinks but takes it well.
Kane tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Merrick Kane seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Boo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kane can pounce on him.

Kane cracks a nice hook into Boo's ribs.
Silver Boo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kane pushes Boo away with a front kick.
Kane fails to land the takedown.
Kane lets loose with a powerful body kick. Boo will feel that in the morning.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kane lands with a kick to the ribs.
Kane delivers a nice body kick.

Boo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Kane darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
It looks like Silver Boo has been cut.
Kane is looking to slow Boo down with leg kicks.
Kane drives through and clinches with Boo against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kane goes for a takedown attempt but Boo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Boo dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kane lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Kane tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kane digs a good body shot into Boo's ribs.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kane.
Kane bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Kane throws out a powerful jab.
A head kick misses from Kane.

Kane gets a clinch.
Kane connects with a nasty looking knee right to Boo's face.
A short uppercut from Boo.
Kane lands with a short shot to the head.
Boo misses with a knee to the head.
Kane misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kane.
A short body shot lands from Kane as the two fighters clinch.
Kane is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Boo is defending well for now.
Kane scores with a shot to the side of Boo's head.
Kane avoiding damage as Boo throws knees to the body.
Kane has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Boo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Silver Boo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Merrick Kane.

Boo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kane's elbow.
Kane working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Kane tries a knee to the head but Boo blocks it.
Boo is pressed up against the cage. Kane has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Boo down to the mat. Boo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Boo takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Kane lands a right hook to the body.
Kane bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Boo! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kane is pushing down on Boo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Boo is fighting to maintain full guard but Kane has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kane is looking for a kimura but Boo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kane to get the leverage.

Kane wants to work for an arm triangle but Boo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kane in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Boo tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kane!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Merrick Kane! Merrick Kane retains his super heavyweight title!
After the fight, Merrick Kane was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
