PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Broyles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Mcgillicutty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jack Mcgillicutty was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Broyles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Mcgillicutty!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Broyles clinches.
Broyles blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Mcgillicutty with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Broyles.
Broyles drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Broyles pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Mcgillicutty's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mcgillicutty being controlled against the cage.
Mcgillicutty looking to stall.
Broyles blocks an uppercut.

Mcgillicutty breaks the clinch.
Broyles takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Scott Broyles has been cut.
Horrible takedown by Broyles or perhaps it was just good defense by Mcgillicutty which made him look bad.
Broyles moves out of range of the body kick.
Broyles tries to clinch up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mcgillicutty tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Broyles was well out of range. Poor timing from Mcgillicutty.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Broyles staying out of range there.
Broyles takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Broyles tries to clinch but Mcgillicutty moves away
and Mcgillicutty counters with a right hand to the body.
Mcgillicutty rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Broyles moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mcgillicutty lands a jab-cross combination.

Broyles fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcgillicutty sprawls well initially but Broyles persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Mcgillicutty is defending against the submission attempts here by Broyles.
Mcgillicutty is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mcgillicutty tries to kick Broyles off but Broyles keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcgillicutty is trying to maintain the position but Broyles is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Broyles looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Broyles uses his free foot to push down on Mcgillicutty's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mcgillicutty.
Broyles pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Broyles is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Broyles extends the arm and Mcgillicutty is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Scott Broyles!
Scott Broyles bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
