Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Murthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Willie Pep!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murthy tries for a takedown but Pep sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Murthy is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pep.
It looks like Kevin Murthy has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Pep. Those never looked like landing.
Murthy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Pep connects with a jab.
Murthy closes the distance and clinches up with Pep, looking for a takedown. Murthy pushes Pep against the cage but Pep circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pep lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Murthy circles away quickly and effectively.
Murthy shoots in looking for a takedown. Pep tries to sprawl out of it but Murthy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pep manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Murthy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pep moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pep throws a series of punches but Murthy moves out of range.
Pep uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Pep lands a slapping body shot.
Pep digs a good body shot into Murthy's ribs.
Pep jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Pep throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pep takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A left and a right from Pep both land. Nice combination.
Murthy is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice uppercut there from Pep.
Oh Murthy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pep lands a nice shot to the body.
Pep's corner calls for a 1-2. Pep obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Pep lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Pep throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Murthy.
Pep lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Murthy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Pep as Murthy shoots in.
Murthy is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Pep moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.
