PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitchell Hobson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mitchell Hobson!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hobson has a takedown stuffed.
Edgar throws a lazy head kick
and Hobson counters with a straight right hand.
Edgar defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hobson.

Edgar really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Frankie Edgar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitchell Hobson.
Hobson shoots for a double leg takedown but Edgar sprawls well. He's pushed Hobson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hobson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Edgar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mitchell Hobson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hobson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Edgar moves forwards but Hobson connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Hobson stalks Edgar and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Edgar's face. Edgar staggers backwards, shaken.

and Edgar counters with a head kick. That will keep Hobson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Hobson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edgar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hobson somewhat.
Hobson tries to clinch up but Edgar circles away and keeps his distance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hobson.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hobson keeps control of Edgar as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Edgar throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hobson on the side of the head.
Edgar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hobson circles away quickly and effectively.

Hobson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Edgar has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Hobson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
