Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wazza Rooney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wazza Rooney!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Hughes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hughes closes the distance looking to clinch
and Rooney counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rooney swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rooney shoots in but no luck this time.

Rooney tries to keep at a distance but Hughes has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hughes lands an elbow inside that Rooney shrugs off.
Rooney tries to circle away but Hughes has him pinned against the cage.
Hughes lands a damaging elbow.
Rooney wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Rooney tries a body shot but Hughes blocks it.
Rooney wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hughes tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rooney avoids it.

Hughes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rooney goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rooney throws a leg kick
and Hughes counters with an inside leg kick.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rooney paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hughes takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hughes stalling.
Rooney is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Rooney wants to get back to striking at distance but Hughes won't allow it.
Hughes manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Hughes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rooney manages to break the clinch.

Hughes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rooney blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Rooney has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Rooney tries to break free but Hughes pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rooney tries to break the clinch but Hughes is controlling the position.
Rooney wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rooney has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hughes is trying to maintain a safe position but Rooney gets an underhook and turns Hughes into the cage.

Rooney pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hughes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rooney swats away the attempt to clinch by Hughes.
Hughes moves in looking to clinch but Rooney pushes him off.
Rooney looks for a takedown but Hughes sprawls well.
Hughes is looking to clinch but Rooney is avoiding it.
Hughes is looking to clinch.
Rooney slips a jab and a cross from Hughes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rooney scores with a sloppy right hand. Hughes should have avoided that one.
Hughes walks into a jab.


Hughes is rocked!
Rooney is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Hughes circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Rooney. Hughes falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Rooney!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Wazza Rooney!
