PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mazer comes into the arena with The Fighter blaring out of the sound system. Vega has chosen Bow Chicka Bow Wow as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyson Vega!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Vega looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mazer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mazer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mazer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vega on the ground.
Mazer trying to mount his opponent but Vega defends it.
Vega wants to get back to full guard.

Vega is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Mazer controlling the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mike Mazer just wasn't active enough.
Vega throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mazer.
Mazer swats away the attempt to clinch by Vega.

Mazer is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Vega's half guard.
Mazer is taking a breather. Vega says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mike Mazer.

Mazer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Vega is trying to defend but Mazer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mazer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mazer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Vega for as long as he can get away with.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vega is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mazer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vega swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mazer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Vega tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mazer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mazer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mazer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vega tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mazer is in Vega's guard.

Mike Mazer decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
