Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen When Will They Shoot as his entrance music. Barry Smith has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barry Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mir tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Mir backing up. Mir nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes.
Nice shot lands for Smith.

Mir instigates a clinch.

Mir breaks the clinch.
Mir misses with a two punch combination.
Mir doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch.
Mir looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mir is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mir throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Smith is looking to regain half guard here but Mir keeps moving and retains side control.
Smith is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mir connects with a decent elbow.

Mir throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mir closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Mir. Mir gets slowly back to his feet.
Mir misses with a wild body shot.
Smith dives in and grabs Mir's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mir pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Mir swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.
Mir keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Smith.

Mir gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.

Mir drags the fight down to the ground.
Mir trying to keep a closed guard but Smith is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith won't allow Mir to sweep him here.

Mir is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.

Mir shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Smith throws a nice looking combination but Mir bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mir lands with a thumping leg kick.
Smith leaves Mir with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mir shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.

Mir wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

Smith seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mir flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Frank Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mir is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Mir tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.

Smith winds up and cracks Mir with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Smith is keen to just control but Mir is a slippery customer.
Mir slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Mir is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Mir has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mir swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mir is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mir wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position.

Mir tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mir is keeping the position for now.

Mir gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Smith tries to clinch there but Mir circles away.

Mir tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from Mir.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Barry Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mir checks a low kick from Smith.
Smith misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith slaps away a takedown attempt from Mir, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Mir tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mir manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mir looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mir wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Mir has control of the leg.
Smith regains full guard. Nicely done.

Mir is putting a hurting on Smith here, landing some big shots from side control.
Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mir wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Smith can't do much from the bottom here.

Mir is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Frank Mir just wasn't active enough.
Mir shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mir.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mir shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.

Frank Mir showed his dominance in that final round.

A very excited looking Frank Mir rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
