PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damien Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson has chosen Fight for your Right to Party as his entrance music. The key to victory for Damien Melendez has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Anderson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anderson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Melendez is looking to regain half guard here but Anderson keeps moving and retains side control.
Anderson wants to control but Melendez is keeping him busy.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Melendez is trying to get back to his feet.
Melendez tries to buck Anderson off but Anderson is having none of it.

Anderson tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Melendez manages to get back to half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Frank Anderson wasn't active enough on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Melendez is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Anderson has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Melendez's face.

Anderson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

It looks like Damien Melendez has been cut.
Melendez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Anderson is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Oh Melendez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Melendez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Melendez drops back looking for a leg! Anderson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anderson manages to kick Melendez off! Melendez jumps back into Anderson's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Anderson holds on and takes a little breather.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Melendez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Melendez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Anderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Anderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Melendez keeps working.

Anderson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Damien Melendez's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Melendez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Anderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Melendez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Anderson's waist but Anderson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Melendez off to one side.
Nice takedown defense from Anderson. No joy for Melendez on that attempt.

and Anderson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Melendez!

Anderson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


Jeez, Damien Melendez's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Damien Melendez's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Frank Anderson!
During a confident post fight interview, Frank Anderson thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
