PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Toth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Ram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Toth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Ram!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toth throws a series of punches but Ram avoids them all with ease.
Toth doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ram counters with a series of strikes. Toth will be more careful next time no doubt.

Toth shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ram manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Toth postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Toth avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ram is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ram is looking to stand up but Toth isn't so interested in that idea.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ram controls Toth momentarily but Toth frees himself.
Ram utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Toth looking to sit in guard and control but Ram gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ram gets to his feet - Toth follows without any prompting.
Toth avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Toth takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Toth advances to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Toth looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ram with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ram is not content to let Toth control the position.
Toth working over Ram with some ground and pound. Ram looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Toth thows a huge punch but Ram dodges it nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Toth tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ram sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Toth somewhat.

Horrible takedown by Ram or perhaps it was just good defense by Toth which made him look bad.
Toth throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ram.
Ram scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Ram thumps Toth with a low kick.
Toth is breathing heavily.
Ram has a takedown stuffed.
Ryan Toth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Ram.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ram is defended easily by Toth.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ram looks for the body kick but Toth saw that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Toth will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Toth shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ram as he jumps to the side.
Ram shoots in and drives through. Toth sprawls well.

Ram throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Toth tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ram is in Toth's guard.

Ram stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Toth swivels though and keeps the full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Daniel Ram hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ram scores with a hook to the body. Toth takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Ram decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ram is looking to stall here but Toth recovers full guard.

Daniel Ram showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Ram enables Toth to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ram manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Toth is looking to advance position but Ram has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
BOOM! Ram connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ram avoids the attempt from Toth to control.
Ram can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Toth is looking to escape.
Toth is looking to improve his position but Ram isn't that keen on the idea.
Toth tries to lock up and control but Ram gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Toth is desperately trying to improve his position but Ram has a good base and remains in mount.

Ram jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Toth is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Toth and Ram has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Ram is stalling here. Toth is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ram seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Toth has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ram takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Toth lands a nice forearm strike.
Ram is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Toth asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Ram can't do much from the bottom here.
Toth grinds an elbow into Ram's temple.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Toth cracks Ram with a big right hand but Ram just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Ram is trying to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A lull in the action here as Toth stalls from top position.
Ram avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Toth.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ryan Toth.
I think Toth has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
