PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Lefleaur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ron James told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gordon Lefleaur!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron James!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lefleaur closes the distance and clinches.
James wants to break the clinch but can't.
James misses with a punch on the inside.
James throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Lefleaurs head.
Lefleaur managing to block the knees to the body from James.
James throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Lefleaur misses with the head strike.
James prevents a body shot from Lefleaur.
James comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Gordon Lefleaur has been cut.
James wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lefleaur can't find room to land a body shot as James controls the action.
James working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
James tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

James wants the takedown. Lefleaur is fighting it off but James persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Lefleaur's guard against the cage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
James throws a big elbow that misses.
Lefleaur utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Lefleaur has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but James has passed into side control.
James prevents Lefleaur from escaping the position.

James tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Lefleaur is pushing James's head away, looking to escape. James manages to hold on to the position though.

Lefleaur is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of James's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take James's back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lefleaur has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of James's body.

James turns into Lefleaur and is now in his guard.
James makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
James slips nicely into half guard.

James is working for a kimura but Lefleaur is defending it quite comfortably.

Lefleaur wants to get back to his feet.
James looks to land a strike but Lefleaur avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

James postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lefleaur is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of James, into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron James dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Gordon Lefleaur's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

James is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

It looks like Ron James has been cut.
Lefleaur throws a sloppy body shot
and James counters with a right hand to the body.
James checks a low kick from Lefleaur.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James needs to keep his hands up - Lefleaur had a free shot at his head there.
Lefleaur throws a hook to the side of James's head but James sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lefleaur throws out the jab.
Lefleaur lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as James backs up against the cage.

Lefleaur tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. James manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lefleaur throws a series of punches but James moves out of range.

Lefleaur moves out of range of the strikes.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
James dodges the punch combination from Lefleaur.
Lefleaur tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
James throws a low kick, looking for Lefleaur's leg but Lefleaur calmly moves out of range.
James keeps the fight on the outside.

The fight stays on the outside here - Lefleaur looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
James is looking to land body kicks.
Lefleaur tries to score with a low kick but James moves his leg out of the way.
Lefleaur clobbers James with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Lefleaur takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
James looks for a takedown but Lefleaur sprawls well.
James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Nice straight punches there by Lefleaur. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Lefleaur.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
James lands a glancing blow to the side of Lefleaur's head.
James throws a lazy right hand but Lefleaur sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

James fails to pull guard.

James stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Lefleaur throws a nice inside leg kick.
Lefleaur is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
James finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
James throws a low kick but Lefleaur avoids it.

James thuds his right hand into Lefleaur's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

James throws a nice outside leg kick.
James steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lefleaur.
Lefleaur chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before James can pounce on him.

James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
James lands an overhand right.
Lefleaur blocks a jab.
James lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Lefleaur misses with a hook.
Lefleaur swings and misses with a hook to the body.
James throws out a loose jab but Lefleaur uses good head movement to avoid it.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lefleaur lands with a thumping leg kick.
Lefleaur misses with an uppercut.
Lefleaur steps to the side to avoid the strikes from James.
Lefleaur misses with a series of wild punches.
Lefleaur looks to throw the jab but James is out of range.

James gets a double leg takedown into Lefleaur's guard.
Lefleaur keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
Lefleaur has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

James misses the jab.
James turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Lefleaur takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lefleaur lands with a nice body punch.
James with a nice cross.
Lefleaur is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
James connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
James slips a jab from Lefleaur.
Lefleaur moves out of range of the body kick.
James connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lefleaur momentarily.
James throws a leg kick that is checked

James lands with a nice body kick.
James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Lefleaur connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lefleaur scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

James misses with a hook.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
James wants to control from the top but Lefleaur keeps moving.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lefleaur steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from James. That one must have hurt.
James throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
James is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lefleaur.

and Lefleaur counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and James makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Lefleaur really felt that one!
Lefleaur wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.

James connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lefleaur's hands.
James lands a head shot.
Lefleaur's corner calls for a 1-2. Lefleaur obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

James loads up on a big right hand but Lefleaur slips the punch.

James fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Lefleaur checks it well.
Lefleaur tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lefleaur doesn't manage to clinch there - James circles away.
James takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.


James is rocked!
Lefleaur steps in with a hook that catches James right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Lefleaur follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! James looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gordon Lefleaur!
