Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Toshi Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie Darko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Toshi Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Donnie Darko!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Darko lands a two punch combo.
Gomi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Darko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Horrible takedown by Gomi or perhaps it was just good defense by Darko which made him look bad.
Darko lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Darko scores with a shot to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gomi takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Darko fails to land with a series of punches.

Gomi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gomi wants to work for an arm triangle but Darko is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gomi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Darko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gomi passes to side control.

Gomi is trying to get an arm triangle but Darko is defending well.

Gomi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Gomi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Darko keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Darko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gomi goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Darko rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gomi's guard! Nice work there by Darko!

Gomi has his foot on Darko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Darko works his way back into a safe position though.

Gomi has an active guard here but Darko has managed to pass into half guard.
Darko tries to stand and escape but Gomi is controlling the position.

Gomi looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Darko pushes past his half guard into mount!
Gomi is trying desperately to improve position.
Gomi tries to hold on but Darko pushes him away.
Gomi is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gomi is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Donnie Darko will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gomi has his takedown stuffed
and Darko counters with a two punch combo.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gomi.
A shot to the liver by Darko. Beautiful body shot.

Gomi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gomi is looking to advance position but Darko won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Darko is trying to stand up here but Gomi is controlling him well.
Gomi is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Darko reverses the position - he's now on top in Gomi's guard.

Gomi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Darko passes into half guard.

Darko stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Gomi to get to his feet.
Sloppy strikes from Darko. Those never looked like landing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Darko throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gomi on the side of the head.
Darko stuffs the takedown attempt from Gomi. Gomi gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toshi Gomi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gomi takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
No joy there for Darko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gomi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Darko counters with a left and a right that stings Gomi.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gomi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Darko sprawls well initially but Gomi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Darko is defending against the submission attempts here by Gomi.

Gomi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Darko is just riding it out for now. Gomi eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gomi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Darko has managed to free his arm - good work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gomi trying to control from half guard but Darko is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnie Darko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Gomi misses with a takedown
and Darko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Darko scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Darko scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Gomi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gomi fails with the takedown
and Darko connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gomi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Darko avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toshi Gomi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gomi dives in and grabs Darko's left leg, looking for a takedown. Darko pushes down on Gomi's head and hops out.
Darko stuffs the takedown attempt from Gomi. Gomi gets slowly back to his feet.

and Darko counters with a nice uppercut.
Donnie Darko seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gomi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Darko moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


Gomi is rocked!
Gomi get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Gomi stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Darko runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Donnie Darko!
