Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nash Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Folignus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Folignus has chosen Laces Out as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nick Folignus enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nash Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nick Folignus!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Folignus throws a big shot that misses.
Smith tries for a takedown but Folignus circles away easily
and Folignus makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Folignus throws a low kick but Smith avoids it.
Folignus is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Folignus tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Folignus swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nash Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Folignus's waist but Folignus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Folignus counters with a thumping low kick.
Folignus scores with a nice body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Folignus avoids it really well and circles away.
Folignus with a jab.
Folignus doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
Smith shoots in for a double leg but Folignus sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A chopping leg kick lands by Folignus.
Nick Folignus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith misses with a left hand
and Folignus counters with a nice leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Folignus clinches.
Smith tries for a takedown but Folignus manages to get underhooks.
Smith changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Folignus fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A head kick from Folignus lands but Smith takes it in his stride.


It looks like Nash Smith has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Folignus counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Folignus moves into range and clinches up with Smith.
Folignus blocks an uppercut.
Stalling in the clinch from Folignus.
Smith has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Folignus after a bit of a struggle.
Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Folignus controls the action.
Smith tries to score a body lock takedown but Folignus shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith misses with a punch on the inside.
Folignus's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Smith is working for takedown but Folignus is calmly controlling the position for now.
Smith has Folignus pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Folignus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Folignus is pressed up against the cage. Smith has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Folignus down to the mat. Folignus avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Folignus lands a head kick. Smith smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Smith closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Folignus's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith preventing the sweep.
Folignus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Folignus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Folignus's corner is telling him to maintain position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Folignus won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
Folignus advances position into side control!
Folignus tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Smith is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Smith is not content to let Folignus control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Folignus has an Americana. Smith didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Folignus is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Folignus hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Nick Folignus!
