PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sharp Pen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Ridpath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ross Ridpath was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sharp Pen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ross Ridpath!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Pen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Ridpath has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Ridpath and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Ross Ridpath seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ridpath, right into the meat.
Pen slips a jab and a cross from Ridpath.

Ridpath throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pen was covering up waiting for the punch and Ridpath finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ridpath postures up in Pen's guard and throws a big left but Pen blocks it.
Ridpath wants to control from the top but Pen keeps moving.
Ridpath has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pen wants to sweep here but Ridpath controlling him for the moment.
Ridpath trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ridpath is controlling him.
Pen has Ridpath pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ross Ridpath.
Ridpath dodges the punch combination from Pen.
Ridpath shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pen pinned against the cage. Pen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pen staying out of range there.
Ridpath displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pen.
Pen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ridpath throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Ridpath misses with a takedown attempt - Pen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pen is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ridpath.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ridpath tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ridpath scores with a nice strike.

Pen on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ridpath throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ridpath takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ridpath is defended easily by Pen.
Sharp Pen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Ridpath.

Pen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Ridpath has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ridpath on the ground.

Pen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ridpath has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pen has managed to get both his arms back between Ridpath's legs - danger averted.

Ridpath has a closed guard, preventing Pen from standing up.

Ridpath controls Pen momentarily but Pen frees himself.

Ridpath is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Pen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ridpath working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pen.
Ridpath is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pen gets to his feet - Ridpath follows without any prompting.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ridpath tries to avoid it but Pen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ridpath to the ground. Ridpath escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ridpath swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Pen counters with a nice body shot.
Pen fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Ridpath dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Ridpath dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pen. That did some damage!
Ridpath throws a lazy uppercut
and Pen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Pen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ridpath.
Pen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ridpath defends it nicely.
Pen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pen stuffs the takedown attempt from Ridpath. Ridpath gets slowly back to his feet.

and Pen counters with a single leg into guard. Ridpath didn't expect that.
Sharp Pen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Ridpath.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ridpath manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pen manages to get himself to full guard.
Ridpathis looking to pass into half guard but Pen pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Pen is in guard.

Pen is sitting in close to Ridpath's body. Ridpath has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Pen is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Pen is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ridpath.

Ross Ridpath tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
