PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luis Soto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alphonse Rosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soto comes to the cage accompanied by eye of the tiger. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luis Soto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alphonse Rosa!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soto shoots in looking for a takedown. Rosa tries to sprawl out of it but Soto keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rosa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Rosa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rosa showed some decent athleticism there.
Soto works his way to full guard. Good work.
Soto looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rosa trying to control but Soto is working from the bottom.
Rosa tries to free his leg and advance position but Soto is retaining full guard.
Soto is controlling Rosa's posture.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Soto is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rosa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Soto stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Soto shoots in looking for a takedown but Rosa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Soto's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Soto takes the fight into the clinch.

Soto tries to score a body lock takedown but Rosa shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luis Soto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Soto goes for a takedown attempt but Rosa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Rosa wants to control the pace but Soto is squirming around nicely.

Rosa is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Soto is surviving well by controlling Rosa's body position as best he can.

Rosa cracks Soto with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Rosa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Soto is looking to escape.
Rosa pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alphonse Rosa dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Rosa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rosa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rosa jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Soto is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Soto and Rosa has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Soto gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Rosa seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rosa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Soto gets back to full guard.

Soto wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Soto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rosa manages to get himself to full guard.

Soto avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Alphonse Rosa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rosa is trying to hold Soto in close to prevent damage but Soto has managed to pass into half guard.
Rosa tries to get to full guard but Soto has control of the leg.
Soto is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Soto decides to stand up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Soto fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Luis Soto will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Rosa lands a head kick. Soto smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The fighters circle, before Rosa throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Soto's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Rosa lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Alphonse Rosa!
