The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gerard swings and misses with a hook to the body.
John scores with a nice strike.

It looks like Michael Gerard has been cut.
John connects with a body shot.
John cracks Gerard with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gerard misses with a looping right.
John misses with a double jab.
Big John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from John. Gerard does a little dance to reset his feet.
John lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gerard at a distance.
Good leg kick by Gerard there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
John lands with a nice body punch.
John throws a series of strikes that have Gerard backpedaling.
Gerard looks gassed!

John lands a left and a right that send Gerard crashing to the mat, dazed. John thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

That has opened up Michael Gerard's cut even more.
John fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
John throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
John connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

The cut above Michael Gerard's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
John moves away from the strike by Gerard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

John drops Gerard with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Gerard looks back up at him and smiles so John waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Gerard is rocked!

Michael Gerard's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Michael Gerard's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
