Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to clinch up
and Daugavins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Daugavins scores with a nice strike.
Daugavins displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Daugavins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Daugavins tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith wants to control from the top but Daugavins keeps moving.
Smith wants to stand but Daugavins has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

We're going to have a standup here because Dave Smith wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Daugavins throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Daugavins checks a low kick from Smith.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
A jab lands there for Daugavins.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Daugavins sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Daugavins.

Smith moves into the clinch.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Daugavins scores with a crisp jab that stopped Smith in his tracks.

Smith has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Daugavins after a bit of a struggle.
Smith tries to break free but Daugavins pushes him back against the cage.
Smith doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Smith drops down looking for an ankle pick but Daugavins pulls his leg out and moves away.
Daugavins pivots, looking for a leg kick but Smith is out of range and Daugavins settles back down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daugavins paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Daugavins's jab looks to have found its range, popping Smith under the eye.

Smith keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Daugavins bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith tries to clinch there but Daugavins circles away.
Smith has his takedown stuffed
and Daugavins counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Daugavins lands with an uppercut that bounces Smith off the cage and back into range.

Daugavins tries to sprawl but Smith drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Smith is nestled in close to Daugavins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Smith is thwarting Daugavins's attempts to control the position.
Smith tries to pass the half guard into mount. Daugavins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Smith is keen to just control but Daugavins is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daugavins is looking to improve his position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Smith drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Daugavins sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Smith rushes Daugavins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith misses with a head kick.

Smith gets a takedown into half guard.
Daugavins slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Daugavins controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Smith throws a big right hand that misses.
Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Daugavins is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Smith frees his head nicely. Oh but Daugavins has switched to an armbar! Smith is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
