PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Fountain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fountain comes to the ring accompanied by All the boys and the girls. Diaz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by National Anthem. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricky Fountain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Diaz!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Diaz wants to work for an arm triangle but Fountain is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Diaz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Fountain has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though.
Fountain is trying to stand back up but Diaz is controlling him

Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fountain!
Fountain might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fountain won't be happy with that.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fountain is on top in guard.
Fountain trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Fountain wants to get up but he can't break Diaz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Diaz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fountain wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
Diaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fountain manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ricky Fountain will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Fountain closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fountain lands in his opponent's guard.

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Fountain is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Diaz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Fountain's back instead.
Fountain looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Fountain covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Fountain tries to escape but Diaz has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Fountain manages to reverse the position and now he's in Diaz's guard. Nice work there by Fountain.
Fountain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fountain is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Diaz asserts his dominance and retains side control.

so Fountain counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Fountain drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Diaz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fountain has Diaz in his guard.

Fountain looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Diaz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ricky Fountain will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fountain decides to stand back up.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Diaz lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Fountain has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Fountain and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Fountain misses with a few strikes there.
Fountain shoots in for a takedown but Diaz shows good takedown defense.
Diaz lands with a thumping leg kick.
Fountain keeps the fight on the outside.
Diaz doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fountain decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Diaz's guard.

Diaz is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Fountain frees his head nicely. Oh but Diaz has switched to an armbar! Fountain is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Mike Diaz!
