PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Song Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taka Tanaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Song Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Taka Tanaka!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tanaka drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Tanaka trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Tanaka got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tanaka has managed to get both his arms back between Lee's legs - danger averted.
Tanaka postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tanaka stands up over Lee, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tanaka looking to sit in guard and control but Lee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Lee trying to control but Tanaka is working from the bottom.
Tanaka is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tanaka keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tanaka is on top in guard.

Lee working for a triangle but Tanaka defends it easily.
Tanaka tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.
Lee looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tanaka puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Lee is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tanaka's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tanaka's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lee is trying to stick to Tanaka's back but Tanaka is turning into Lee. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Lee's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tanaka.
Tanaka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lee swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tanaka wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Lee had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tanaka defends it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lee trying to keep a closed guard but Tanaka is proving a slippery customer.

Lee looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tanaka showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Lee keeping full guard, as Tanaka tries to pass.
Lee looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Tanaka passes Lee's left leg - he's now in half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Taka Tanaka hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lee shoots in for a takedown but Tanaka shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tanaka is looking to land body kicks.
Lee thows a left - swing and a miss!
Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Taka Tanaka will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lee throws a body punch but Tanaka moves out of range.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
Lee throws an overhand right that lands on Tanaka's shoulder, as Tanaka tries to avoid the shot.
Lee keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tanaka.
Lee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tanaka was well out of range. Poor timing from Lee.

Tanaka looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lee!
Tanaka postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lee looks a forlorn figure.
A nice elbow there by Tanaka.

Tanaka is working for a guillotine from mount but Lee frees his head quite easily.
Lee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Tanaka mounts Lee! Really nice guard pass there!
Lee tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tanaka fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Lee is working to get back to half guard.
Tanaka wants to control the pace but Lee is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee is trying to escape the mount.

Lee is wriggling around trying to escape.
Lee tries to hold on but Tanaka pushes him away.

Tanaka is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lee to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lee shrugs it off.
Tanaka prevents Lee from getting the reversal.
Tanaka tries to control but Lee wriggling away.
Tanaka lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lee is rocked!

Tanaka with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Tanaka breaks from Lee's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Oh Lee is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lee tries to hold on but Tanaka pushes him away.
Lee seems to have got his legs back now.
Tanaka is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lee can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Lee wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Tanaka doesn't have the hooks in and Lee manages to turn into his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tanaka is on top in guard.
Taka Tanaka has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lee is looking for a triangle but Tanaka pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are battling for position here. Lee manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tanaka is posturing up here but Lee has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Tanaka tries to roll out but it's too tight and Tanaka has to tap! Slick submission there by Lee!
