Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Masaki Sumitani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alfons Aberg!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aberg moves away from the strike by Sumitani.
Aberg shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sumitani pinned against the cage. Sumitani gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Aberg closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Aberg lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Aberg content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Aberg is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Aberg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sumitani keeping moving, preventing Aberg from controlling successfully.
Sumitani pulls Aberg in close to his closed guard and prevents Aberg from doing any damage or advancing position.
Aberg lands a couple of digs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sumitani controls Aberg momentarily but Aberg frees himself.
Sumitani is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Aberg is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Aberg works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sumitani wants to control but Aberg is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Aberg wants to take a breather but Sumitani is having none of it.
Sumitani wants to control but Aberg is keeping busy.
Aberg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sumitani manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Aberg throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sumitani works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sumitani is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Aberg rolls with it to try and escape but Sumitani cranks on the arm and Aberg is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Masaki Sumitani!
Our winner, Masaki Sumitani, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
