PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jagger Cyde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Smitts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Cyde might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Papa Roach - Caught Dead. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jagger Cyde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Smitts!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cyde tries to clinch up but Smitts circles away and keeps his distance.
Cyde tries a head kick but it misses.
Cyde tries to close the distance and clinch but Smitts swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smitts closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cyde to the mat! Cyde manages to get full guard.
Smitts wants to control from the top but Cyde keeps moving.
Smitts wants to get up but he can't break Cyde's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cyde is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Smitts controlling from the top position.
Smitts stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cyde swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smitts is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cyde rushes Smitts and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cyde lands a damaging elbow.

Cyde breaks the clinch.

Smitts shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Smitts works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smitts takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Smitts looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Smitts missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Smitts moves nicely into side control.

Cyde is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Cyde's face as Smitts controls the position.
Cyde tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smitts wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Smitts throws a strike aimed at the side of Cyde's head but Cyde avoids it well.
Smitts trying to control the action but Cyde is working from the bottom.

Smitts tries for a kimura but Cyde is defending well.
Smitts wants to control but Cyde is keeping him busy.

Smitts tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cyde tries to clinch but Smitts is having none of it.

Cyde clinches up with Smitts and pushes him back against the cage.
Cyde using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Cyde breaks the clinch.

Cyde fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smitts sprawls well initially but Cyde persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Smitts is pressing down on Cyde's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cyde is breathing heavily.
Cyde preventing the sweep.
Cyde wants to stand but Smitts has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Smitts looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Smitts lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cyde!
Cyde is trying to reverse the position but instead Smitts has taken his back - oops!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Smitts has managed to clinch.
Cyde tries for a takedown but Smitts manages to get underhooks.
Smitts is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cyde is keeping busy.

Cyde manages to break the clinch.
Cyde wants to clinch.

Cyde shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cyde showed some decent athleticism there.
Smitts moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smitts wants to sweep but no luck.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smitts seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cyde wants to control from the top but Smitts keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smitts seems keen to control Cyde's posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smitts's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, Don Smitts just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smitts gets a takedown into half guard.

Smitts is looking for a kimura here.

Smitts content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Smitts seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cyde does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smitts might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cyde kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cyde is staying active underneath Smitts, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smitts performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Smitts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Smitts drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cyde gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jagger Cyde has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Smitts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cyde breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jagger Cyde is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smitts takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Smitts has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cyde avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Cyde escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cyde tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Smitts gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cyde tries to stand but Smitts is controlling from the bottom.
Cyde stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smitts swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smitts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cyde is one step ahead there.
Smitts bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cyde's guard.

Smitts decides to stand up.
Smitts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cyde swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Cyde.
Smitts gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cyde counters with a series of strikes. Smitts will be more careful next time no doubt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Don Smitts.
I've got Smitts winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
