PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reed Kilgore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Reed Kilgore has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Reed Kilgore seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields closes the distance and clinches up with Kilgore, looking for a takedown. Shields pushes Kilgore against the cage but Kilgore circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kilgore looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Shields!
Shields is trying to escape the mount.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Shields is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Shields is bucking up trying to escape but Kilgore cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Shields sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shields is on top in guard.

Shields sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kilgore's guard.
Still in half guard, Shields seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kilgore wants to get back to his feet.
Shields lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Well, if Shields is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Shields trying to control but Kilgore is having none of it.

Shields tries to control but Kilgore wriggling away.
Kilgore knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jake Shields wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kilgore shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Shields is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
