PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Gleason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andrew Gleason will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Gleason!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gleason fails to land with a series of punches.

Gleason tries to keep at a distance but Mason has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gleason fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mason tries to break the clinch but Gleason is controlling the position.
Gleason misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mason is trying to break the clinch but Gleason is controlling him.
Gleason lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Gleason is looking to take this one to the mat.
Mason with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Mason's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mason circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mason will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Gleason slips a jab and a cross from Mason.
Mason shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gleason but Gleason pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gleason throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mason's waist but Mason gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gleason off to one side.
Mason tries to clinch but Gleason moves out of range.

Nice takedown defense from Gleason. No joy for Mason on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jacob Mason. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mason closes the distance and pushes Gleason back into the cage.

Gleason breaks from the clinch.
Mason throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gleason counters with a one-two to the body.
Mason doesn't manage to clinch there - Gleason circles away.

Gleason clinches.
Mason tries to circle away but Gleason has him pinned against the cage.
Gleason jumps guard but Mason turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mason has had enough of the clinch but Gleason keeps him there for the moment.
Mason gets underhooks to prevent Gleason's takedown attempt.
Mason is trying to force a seperation but Gleason has the dominant position.

Gleason breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mason.
Gleason tries for a takedown but Mason sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Mason feints and as Gleason raises his hands in defense, Mason changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gleason looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mason stands and throws Gleason's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mason controlling the position.

Mason stands up.
Mason shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gleason but Gleason pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mason fails with the takedown.

Mason on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Gleason is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gleason scores with a three punch combo!
Mason shoots in but Gleason avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gleason moves into the clinch.
Gleason misses with a knee strike.
Mason is trying to force a seperation but Gleason has the dominant position.

Mason pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gleason tries for a takedown but Mason sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gleason wants to clinch.
Gleason throws a right hand that Mason ducks under and follows up with a left that Mason also avoids with ease.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mason decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Gleason is defending against the submission attempts here by Mason.
Mason is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mason prevents Gleason from getting the reversal.
Mason scoring with strikes but Gleason is staying in there.

and Mason decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gleason's guard.
Gleason is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mason is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gleason controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.

Gleason looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mason puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Mason lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mason is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mason decides to return to a standing position.

Mason fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gleason has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Mason feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mason drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mason jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mason seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mason drops back looking for a leg! Gleason is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gleason manages to kick Mason off! Mason jumps back into Gleason's guard.

Gleason keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully.

Mason drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gleason looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gleason looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gleason!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gleason just content to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Mason dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Mason dives in and grabs Gleason's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gleason pushes down on Mason's head and hops out.
Mason is looking to clinch but Gleason is avoiding it.
Gleason fails with a takedown attempt.
Mason looks for a takedown but Gleason sprawls well.

Jacob Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Gleason.

Gleason tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mason smiles and moves away.

Mason has picked Gleason up - he's going for a ride! Mason dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gleason keeps working.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mason looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mason looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Gleason won't allow Mason to pass to mount.
Mason moves into full mount! Gleason won't be happy about that!

Gleason wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Jacob Mason overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mason really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Gleason.

Mason is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Gleason knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Gleason for a finish.

Mason has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gleason has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Gleason is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Mason gets his way!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mason, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
