The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Massey misses with a takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Rowlans connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Rowlans misses with a two punch combination.
Massey defending well as Rowlans loads up on a big left hand.
Massey shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rowlans throws a right and a left that Massey avoids nicely.

and Rowlans counters with a nice body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ross Massey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rowlans scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Massey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rowlans sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Massey somewhat.
Rowlans will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Massey. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Massey chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rowlans can pounce on him.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Rowlans using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Massey has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rowlans gets caught flat footed, as Massey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Rowlans has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rowlans wants to hit a switch here but Massey passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Rowlans there!

Rowlans tries to reverse the position but Massey maintains control.
Rowlans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Massey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rowlans. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Massey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Massey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Massey shoots in but Rowlans avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Massey moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Massey dives in and grabs Rowlans's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rowlans pushes down on Massey's head and hops out.

Massey looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Massey wants to take the fight to the mat but Rowlans manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

I think Rowlans has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
