PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Diego Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Out of my Mind. Jackson has chosen KRS One - Step Into a World as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Diaz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Jackson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Diaz's half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Diaz is trying to get back to full guard.
Diaz controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Jackson throws a strike but Diaz avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Jackson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jackson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jackson postures up in Diaz's guard and throws a big left but Diaz blocks it.

Diaz throws out a loose jab but Jackson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jackson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Diaz sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Diaz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

and Jackson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Diaz looks to throw the jab but Jackson is out of range.
Diego Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jackson lands with a nice combination. Diaz backs away looking to recover.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jackson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab.

Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jackson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but Diaz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Diaz tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control.
Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Diaz is refusing to be controlled, as Jackson sits in half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Jackson wasn't active enough on the ground.

Diaz throws out a loose jab but Jackson uses good head movement to avoid it.

Jackson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Jackson stalling away here and it's allowed Diaz to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz is working hard here to advance position.
Diaz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jackson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jackson wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jackson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Jackson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Jackson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jackson off to one side.
Diaz throws a body punch but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Diaz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jackson throws a poor cross that misses
and Diaz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jackson sizes up Diaz with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

and Diaz counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Jackson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Diaz tries to land a front kick but Jackson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Jackson sizes up Diaz with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Jackson throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jackson looks for a takedown but Diaz sprawls well.
Diego Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jackson.
Diaz has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but John Jackson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Diaz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Diaz, as that shot connected.

Jackson swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz.

and Diaz makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Diaz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jackson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Diaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jackson misses with an uppercut.
Jackson lands the left hand.
Diaz lands a nice shot to the body.

enabling Diaz to counter with a crisp jab.

Jackson looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Jackson trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Jackson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Diaz thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
John Jackson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jackson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
John Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jackson shoots in but Diaz avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jackson scores with a jab. Diaz acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Diaz rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz gets through Jackson's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Jackson tries to score a body lock takedown but Diaz shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

A frustrated look appears on Jackson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jackson tries to circle away but Diaz has him pinned against the cage.
Diaz lands a hook that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Diaz is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Diaz scores with a knee to the head.
Diego Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Diego Diaz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
