PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Madobie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevens comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Enter Sandman kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thiago Madobie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens has a takedown stuffed.
Madobie throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Madobie tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stevens paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Madobie lands with a slapping head kick.

Madobie moves into range and clinches up with Stevens.
Madobie misses with a knee to the head.
Madobie throws an elbow but it misses.
Stevens wants a takedown.
Stevens slows down the pace here.
Madobie throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Stevens has Madobie pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Madobie manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Thiago Madobie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Stevens.

Madobie is fighting off a takedown attempt but Stevens is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Madobie to the mat. Madobie regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Madobie is looking for a triangle but Stevens pushes his legs off easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Madobie darts in and clinches Stevens up against the cage.

Madobie throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Stevens blocks it with crossed arms.

Stevens is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Stevens jumps guard and drags Madobie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Stevens throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stevens is looking to stand up but Madobie isn't so interested in that idea.

The fight stays on the outside here - Madobie looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Stevens fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Madobie sprawls well initially but Stevens persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A close second round but James Stevens will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Madobie moves into the clinch successfully.

Stevens ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Stevens no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Stevens has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Madobie off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Madobie is looking to regain half guard here but Stevens keeps moving and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Madobie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stevens manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Madobie has Stevens in his guard.

Madobie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stevens manages to get himself to full guard.
Stevens lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Madobie!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Madobie regains half guard.
Madobie is trying to stand up here but Stevens is controlling him well.
Madobie tries to get to full guard but Stevens has control of the leg.
Madobie is trying to maintain the position but Stevens is very close to passing his half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Stevens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stevens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
