PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wooden Pencil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Derric Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Styles shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pencil's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Pencil keeping moving, preventing Styles from controlling successfully.
Styles postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Styles postures up in Pencil's guard and throws a big left but Pencil blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Styles has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Styles has his foot on Pencil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pencil works his way back into a safe position though.

Styles is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Styles working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Styles drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pencil dives on top into guard.

Styles had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pencil defends it easily.
Styles has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Styles wants to sweep but no luck.

Styles working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pencil doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pencil manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Styles wants to hit a switch here but Pencil passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Styles there!
Styles tries to reverse the position but Pencil maintains control.
Styles reaches up and holds on to Pencil to control the position.
Styles is looking to improve his position but Pencil isn't that keen on the idea.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Styles tries to hold on but Pencil postures up.
Styles keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pencil will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Styles is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Styles is in all sorts of trouble here.
Pencil avoids the attempt from Styles to control.

Styles is trying to reverse the position but instead Pencil has taken his back - oops!
Styles tries to escape but Pencil has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Styles breaks from Pencil's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Styles loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Pencil scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Styles land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Styles stands and salutes the crowd.
