The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas with a poor takedown

and Santos counters with a shoot takedown. Thomas fights it but they end up in guard.
Santos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Thomas controls Santos momentarily but Santos frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santos drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Thomas dives on top into guard.

Thomas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Santos tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

After the fight, Paul Thomas was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
