PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gladiator Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gladiator Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnson gets tackled into the cage by Williams. Williams maintains the clinch.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Williams forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Williams is working for takedown but Johnson is calmly controlling the position for now.

Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnson shoots in but no luck this time.

Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Williams avoids it really well and circles away.

Williams shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard.

Williams will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Johnson is trying to stand up here but Williams is controlling him well.

Williams postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Williams wants to get up but he can't break Johnson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Williams would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gladiator Johnson wasn't active enough on the ground.

Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Williams on his heels. He'll look to pass Williams's guard now, I'm sure.

It looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Williams wants to improve his position but instead Johnson has moved into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Williams will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Johnson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Williams looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Johnson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Johnson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Johnson manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Williams pinned against the cage. Williams gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Williams counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Williams avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Williams throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Johnson shoots in for a double leg but Williams sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johnson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Williams closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Johnson is working to tighten is grip on Williams's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Williams has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Johnson is really squeezing tight and eventually Williams passes out! Johnson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
