PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brian KO (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Lopes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian KO!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Lopes!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
KO lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Lopes closes this distance looking for a takedown but KO circles away.
Lopes swats away the attempt to clinch by KO.
Lopes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from KO.
KO tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lopes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but KO avoids it really well and circles away.
KO tries a head kick but it misses.
KO's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and KO duly obliges.
Lopes takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A jab from KO does it's job there.
KO misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
KO leaves Lopes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Brian KO has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Lopes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
KO swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lopes takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Lopes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Lopes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed KO's head.
KO gets back to full guard.
Lopes pushing down on KO's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Lopes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

KO looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lopes connects with a nice short shot to KO's temple.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lopes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Lopes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with KO. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lopes is looking to pass KO's guard but actually KO recovers to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lopes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. KO swivels though and keeps the full guard.
KO keeping moving, preventing Lopes from controlling successfully.
Lopes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. KO is keeping the position for now.
Lopes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lopes wanted to stand there but KO had control of the position.
Lopes looks gassed!

Lopes got a little sloppy there for a moment and KO has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lopes has managed to get both his arms back between KO's legs - danger averted.
Lopes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. KO is keeping the position for now.

KO looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lopes looking to sit in guard and control but KO gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lopes wants to stand but KO is controlling the position.

KO drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. KO seems to have locked his on tight now - Lopes screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for KO, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Brian KO!
During a confident post fight interview, Brian KO thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
