PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Peter Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nyquil Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Salazar has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Nyquil Salazar will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nyquil Salazar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Salazar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Salazar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jackson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Salazar trying to pass the guard but Jackson defending well.
Jackson is pressing down on Salazar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Salazar is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Jackson trying to keep a closed guard but Salazar is proving a slippery customer.
Salazar throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Salazar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Salazar is stalling in the full guard.
Salazar wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.

Jackson is looking for a triangle but Salazar pushes his legs off easily.

Jackson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Salazar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jackson has momentary wrist control but Salazar slips an elbow through the middle.
Salazar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Salazar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jackson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Salazar.
Salazar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jackson circles away.
Salazar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jackson but Jackson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Salazar fails to land the takedown.
Peter Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nyquil Salazar.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salazar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jackson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jackson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nyquil Salazar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jackson has closed the distance and engaged Salazar in a clinch.
Salazar avoiding damage.

Salazar has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jackson uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson passes Salazar's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Salazar kicks off Jackson and gets to his feet.

Jackson tries to keep at a distance but Salazar has taken the fight into the clinch.
Salazar has Jackson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jackson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Salazar looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salazar has a couple of punches blocked by Jackson.

Jackson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jackson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Salazar content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Jackson has locked up a guillotine! Jackson's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Salazar is holding on here and Jackson must be using up a lot of energy. Salazar has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Jackson gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
