The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Bell circles away.

and smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Bell has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. smith is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bell.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bell tries to clinch but fails miserably

and smith counters with a single leg into guard. Bell didn't expect that.

Bell striking off his back but it's not causing smith any problems.
Bell throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Bell had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Bell Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take smith's back instead.

Bell has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, smith has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
smith tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
BOOM! Bell connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Bell is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But smith has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from smith!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Bell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. smith manages to get himself to full guard.
Bell wants to pass the guard but smith is keeping the position.

Bell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
smith is trying to stand back up but Bell is controlling him

and smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bell's guard now.

Bell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
