PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samuri Sikura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Van Brunswijk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Samuri Sikura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Van Brunswijk!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Brunswijk uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sikura.

Sikura dives in and scores a takedown into Van Brunswijk's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Van Brunswijk swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sikura is now in Van Brunswijk's guard. A big mistake from Van Brunswijk there, giving up the dominant position!

Van Brunswijk has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sikura is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Van Brunswijk.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Samuri Sikura will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sikura feints and as Van Brunswijk raises his hands in defense, Sikura changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Van Brunswijk is looking for a triangle but Sikura pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sikura content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sikura accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sikura walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close second round but I would say that Samuri Sikura will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sikura is nestled in close to Van Brunswijk, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Van Brunswijk is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sikura scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sikura seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Van Brunswijk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Samuri Sikura showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sikura, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Samuri Sikura thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
