Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dave Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming John to the mat! John manages to get full guard.
Jackson passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
John has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jackson is pressing down on John's thigh, looking to free his foot. John is holding on for now.

John is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jackson pulls his head out easily.
John is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

John tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jackson lands a nice short elbow.
John is trying to get back to full guard.

John thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but John is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks John with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jackson tries to advance to mount but John denies him.

Jackson decides to stand up, so the ref orders John to his feet.

Jackson gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Jackson wants to break free but John has control.

John tightens his grip and picks Jackson up, before dumping him to the ground. Jackson manages to land in guard.
John prevents Jackson from getting back to his feet.
John working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.

John drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jackson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jackson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jackson!
John tries to improve position but can't.
John is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
John is staying active underneath Jackson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark John will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


John shoots in and drives through. Jackson sprawls well.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. John quickly recovers to half guard.

Jackson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
John is not content to let Jackson control the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dave Jackson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jackson misses with a two punch combination.
Jackson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Jackson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching John on his heels. He'll look to pass John's guard now, I'm sure.

Jackson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jackson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows John to get to his feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


John shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jackson as he avoids it easily.

John throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jackson was covering up waiting for the punch and John finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jackson takes John's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.
John tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The referee asks Jackson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jackson prefers to stall for the moment though.

Well Jackson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dave Jackson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
