PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phineus Gage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barney Sumner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gage comes into the arena with Mac Lethal - Black Widow Spider blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gage throws a hook to the side of Sumner's head but Sumner sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gage throws a left and a right that both miss

and Sumner counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sumner.
Sumner scores with a nice hook to the head.
Sumner lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gage backwards.
Sumner content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Gage can't break the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Gage's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sumner is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Gage is trying to force a seperation but Sumner has the dominant position.
Gage looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Sumner lands a nice uppercut.
Gage has had enough of the clinch but Sumner keeps him there for the moment.
A frustrated look appears on Gage's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sumner misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Sumner doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sumner struggles to land a body shot inside as Gage controls his hands.
Gage is trying to push Sumner away but Sumner has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Gage throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sumner sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Sumner connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Gage misses with a double jab.
Sumner bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gage's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gage is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sumner.

Gage ducks under a wild hook from Sumner.

Gage's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Sumner manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Gage pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Sumner tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gage swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sumner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gage manages to avoid it.

Gage moves forwards but Sumner connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gage will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gage throws a hook but Sumner blocks it.
Gage misses with a looping left.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gage shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sumner lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Gage keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Gage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Sumner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gage finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Sumner's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Gage falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!
