PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dewey Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jedi Mindtricks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox comes into the arena with Guilty As Charged blaring out of the sound system. Jedi Mindtricks told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dewey Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jedi Mindtricks!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mindtricks throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mindtricks lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Cox lands a right hook to the body.

Mindtricks tries to sprawl but Cox drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mindtricks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Cox decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Cox throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mindtricks.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mindtricks misses with a wild combination.
Cox avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mindtricks misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mindtricks swings widly with a right hand

and Cox moves into the clinch.

Cox pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Cox.

Mindtricks takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


That has opened up Jedi Mindtricks's cut even more.
Cox on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Mindtricks scores with a jab. Cox acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Cox avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Cox clinches with his opponent.
Mindtricks wants a takedown.
Mindtricks tries to pull guard but Cox forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Dewey Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jedi Mindtricks.

Cox gets control of Mindtricks's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cox will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mindtricks is fighting to break Cox's control of his arms but Cox is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Mindtricks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mindtricks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cox has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mindtricks has managed to get both his arms back between Cox's legs - danger averted.

Mindtricks is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Cox pushes Mindtricks off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Cox escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mindtricks throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cox.
Mindtricks looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jedi Mindtricks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mindtricks thows a body shot but no joy.
Cox defending well as Mindtricks loads up on a big left hand.
Mindtricks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Cox decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mindtricks's guard.

Well, if Cox is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Cox tries to pass to full mount but Mindtricks defends it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mindtricks keeps working.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cox is looking to advance position but Mindtricks won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mindtricks swinging wildly here.

and Cox counters with a body kick that stops Mindtricks in his tracks momentarily.
Mindtricks lands a head shot.
Cox tries for a takedown but Mindtricks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cox takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Cox shoots in looking for a takedown. Mindtricks tries to sprawl out of it but Cox keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mindtricks manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Cox pulls guard successfully.
Mindtricks working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cox's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mindtricks throws a strike but Cox rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Mindtricks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cox decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mindtricks tries to avoid it but Cox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mindtricks to the ground. Mindtricks escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mindtricks might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Cox shoots in looking for a takedown but Mindtricks manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cox's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mindtricks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
