PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Niltinho Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Welland Carnvu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Welland Carnvu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machado looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Machado stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Machado instigates a clinch.

Machado escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Machado gets the takedown into side control.

Machado decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Machado closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Machado lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Carnvu has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Machado is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carnvu.

Machado decides to stand back up. Machado steps back and let's Carnvu get back to his feet.
Machado is breathing heavily.

Machado gets a clinch.

Machado pulls guard effortlessly.
Carnvu is fighting to break Machado's control of his arms but Machado is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Carnvu is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Machado manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Machado shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carnvu as he jumps to the side.

Machado decides to stand and escape the position.

Carnvu is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Machado gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Machado looking to throw knees to the head but Carnvu is blocking nicely.
Carnvu tries to pull guard but Machado holds him up against the cage and eventually Carnvu drops back down to his feet.
Niltinho Machado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Welland Carnvu.

Carnvu is looking to advance position but Machado has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Machado has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Carnvu slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Carnvu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carnvu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Machado has given up his back.

Carnvu is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Machado knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Machado for a finish.

Machado manages to stand up with Carnvu still on his back. Eventually Carnvu drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

Carnvu is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Machado is forced to tap! Great finish!
