PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir comes to the cage accompanied by New Low - Middle Class Rut . I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brock Rua!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua stuffs the takedown attempt from Mir. Mir gets slowly back to his feet.

Mir shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mir showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mir is looking to advance position but Rua won't allow it.

Mir looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rua really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mir seems to be working for a kimura but Rua defends the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rua can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mir prevents Rua from improving his position.

Mir is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Rua still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Rua has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Mir is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rua manages to get to full guard.
Mir won't allow Rua to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mir is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rua is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rua has escaped and now he's on top!

Mir has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rua can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rua cracks Mir with a solid left hand.

Rua decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Mir counters by moving into the clinch.
Rua blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Mir is looking for a takedown.
Mir tries for a takedown but Rua manages to get underhooks.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mir creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Mir is trying to break the clinch but Rua is controlling him.

Rua tightens his grip and picks Mir up, before dumping him to the ground. Mir manages to land in guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Mir will probably get the nod.

Rua closes the distance and clinches.

Rua turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rua manages to end up in side control.

Rua is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mir is just riding it out for now. Rua eventually gives up the hold.

Rua drops an elbow to the side of Mir's head.
Rua wants to free his trapped foot but Mir is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Mir is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mir manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rua's best efforts.

Brock Rua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Rua stuffs the takedown.

Mir dives in and grabs Rua's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes down on Mir's head and hops out.
Rua stalks Mir and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mir's face. Mir staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Frank Mir has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mir looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Mir is rocked!
Rua postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Mir badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Rua around the waist but Rua pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Rua is the winner by TKO! Rua jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brock Rua!
