PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stran Gler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Faber's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Rich Boy - Throw Some D's . Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Faber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stran Gler!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gler throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Faber gets caught flat footed, as Gler shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Gler trying to control the position from guard on top but Faber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Faber is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Faber avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Faber trying to keep a closed guard but Gler is proving a slippery customer.
Gler trying to control but Faber is working from the bottom.

Faber wants to control the position but Gler says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Gler is looking to advance position but Faber won't allow it.

Faber is in a horrible position here. Gler smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Gler wants to control the pace but Faber is squirming around nicely.
Faber wants to control but Gler is having none of it.

Faber blocking the ground and pound.
Gler trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Faber tries to hold on but Gler postures up.
Gler landing strikes, looking to finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gler unloads with some shots from mount but Faber bucks and avoids them well.
Gler sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Gler looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Gler controlling from mount.

Faber is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gler content just to control the position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gler trying to control but Faber is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Faber is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gler avoids the attempt from Faber to control.
Faber is in all sorts of trouble here.
Gler controlling from the full mount.
Faber tries to reverse the position but Gler maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gler working for a guillotine from mount but Faber is in no mood to give up.
Faber is trying to escape the mount.
Faber is working hard here to advance position.
Faber knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gler on the ground.
Faber tries to hold on but Gler postures up.
Faber is breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gler trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gler in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stran Gler dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gler is defended easily by Faber.

Faber shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gler napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Faber just content to control the position.
Faber trying to control the action but Gler is working from the bottom.
Gler tries to buck Faber off but Faber is having none of it.
Gler sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gler makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gler.

Gler escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Faber gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Faber slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gler keeping moving, preventing Faber from controlling successfully.

Faber got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Faber has managed to get both his arms back between Gler's legs - danger averted.

Gler has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Faber can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gler throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gler thows a huge punch but Faber dodges it nicely.

Gler is looking to take a break and control but Faber is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Faber is trying to maintain the position but Gler is very close to passing his half guard.
Gler wants to take a breather but Faber is having none of it.

Gler is looking for a kimura but Faber is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gler to get the leverage.

Faber is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gler looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Faber with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gler is looking for a kimura but Faber is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gler to get the leverage.
Gler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Faber tries to get to full guard but Gler has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gler content to control rather than advance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gler is trying to control the action in half guard but Faber is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Stran Gler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Faber closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Faber lands in his opponent's guard.
Gler is trying to control the position but Faber postures up.
Faber looking to sit in guard and control but Gler gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Faber wants to improve his position but instead Gler has moved into half guard.

Faber is trying to maintain the position but Gler is very close to passing his half guard.
Faber on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Faber tries to get out of the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Faber gets back to full guard.
Gler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Gler not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Stran Gler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
