Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Garelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yutaka Shinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garelli comes to the cage accompanied by Patriarch on a Vespa. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Garelli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yutaka Shinto!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garelli slips a jab and a cross from Shinto.
Some wild striking there from Shinto.

Garelli pushes Shinto up against the cage in a clinch.

Garelli lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Shinto is positioning himself well to prevent Garelli advancing to mount.
Garelli controlling the pace.
Shinto wants to get back to full guard.
Shinto is trying to control but can't.

Garelli is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Shinto sees it coming and defends easily.

Garelli looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Garelli seems content to control.
Shinto is trying to control but can't.
Garelli is taking a breather. Shinto says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Garelli seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shinto for as long as he can get away with.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Garelli misses with a left hand
and Shinto counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Garelli ducks under a wild hook from Shinto.
Shinto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shinto wants it to stay on the feet.
Shinto dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Shinto jabs at Garelli's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shinto takes a swing at Garelli's ribcage but misses.
Shinto connects with a body shot.
Shinto will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shinto takes a head kick and keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Garelli changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shinto looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shinto takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Shinto looks to move to half guard but instead Garelli has passed into mount! Damn!

Garelli working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Garelli prevents Shinto from getting the reversal.

Garelli has hold of Shinto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shinto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shinto is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Garelli is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Garelli extends the arm and Shinto is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Garelli!
