Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kev Yama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phat Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yama takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Johnson clinches with his opponent.
Johnson is trying to maintain a safe position but Yama gets an underhook and turns Johnson into the cage.
Yama is looking for a takedown.
Johnson working hard to break the clinch.
Johnson scores a nice knee to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Yama on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Yama has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Johnson after a bit of a struggle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson tries to throw a body punch but Yama avoids it by throwing Johnson back against the cage.

Johnson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Yama.

Johnson moves into range and clinches up with Yama.
Johnson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Yama is keeping busy.
Johnson throws a knee to the head but misses.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Johnson obliges.

Johnson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

A frustrated look appears on Johnson's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Johnson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Johnson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Johnson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Yama thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Yama prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.

Yama drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yama jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Yama is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Johnson wants to sweep here but Yama controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yama prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phat Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Yama walks into a left hand.

Johnson clinches up with Yama and pushes him back against the cage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Johnson. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

It looks like Kev Yama has been cut.
Johnson misses with a body punch.

Johnson tightens his grip and picks Yama up, before dumping him to the ground. Yama manages to land in guard.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yama is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Yama looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yama has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Yama's legs - danger averted.

Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yama swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Yama had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Johnson defends it easily.

Johnson wants to pass the guard but Yama is keeping the position.

Johnson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Johnson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Yama has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Johnson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Yama is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Yama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Yama is tightening it up a little... Johnson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Johnson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Johnson taps out! Nice BJJ there by Yama!
