PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Condor Axe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Becker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Becker has chosen Justus Köhncke - Timecode as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Boris Becker acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Condor Axe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Boris Becker!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Becker gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Axe connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Axe closes the distance and clinches up with Becker, looking for a takedown. Axe pushes Becker against the cage but Becker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Becker shoots in and bounces Axe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Axe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Becker with a flurry of punches that miss.

Becker has gone for a leg lock! Axe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Becker's guard.

Becker working for a triangle but Axe defends it easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Axe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Axe wants to control from the top but Becker keeps moving.
Axe is stalling in the full guard.
Becker tries to strike from the bottom.
Axe cracks Becker with a solid left hand.
Axe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Becker on the ground.
Becker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Axe manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Becker drops back, looking for a kneebar! Axe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Axe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Axe!
Becker tries to improve position but can't.
Axe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Becker keeps working.
Becker is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Axe's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Becker throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Becker moves into full guard.

Axe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Becker has his foot on Axe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Axe works his way back into a safe position though.

Becker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Axe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Axe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Axe sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Becker's guard.
Becker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Becker is pressing down on Axe's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Becker is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Becker throws a big elbow that misses.
Becker is pushing down on Axe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Axe is fighting to maintain full guard but Becker has managed to sneak the leg through.
Becker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Axe with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Becker is thwarting Axe's attempts to control the position.

Becker is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Becker has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Axe should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Becker has tightened it up now! Axe should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

In his post fight interview, Boris Becker started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
