Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jay looking to score a takedown here. Ortiz is defending well but Jay drives through and ends up in Ortiz's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Jay wants to control from the top but Ortiz keeps moving.

Jay is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ortiz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ortiz has escaped and now he's on top!

Ortiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ortiz has managed to get both his arms back between Jay's legs - danger averted.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jay is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ortiz throws an elbow that misses. Jay uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ortiz's guard. Nice move by Jay!

Jay thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jay is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jay passes Ortiz's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jay is thwarting Ortiz's attempts to control the position.

Jay maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ortiz could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Jay has cracked it and Ortiz is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Jay!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bob Jay!
A pretty intense looking Bob Jay took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
