The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markku throws a half hearted mid kick.
Smith leaves Markku with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smith takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Markku moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Markku.
Smith lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Smith steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Markku. That one must have hurt.
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.

and Markku counters by moving into the clinch.

Smith tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Markku turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Markku manages to end up in side control.
Smith pushes Markku away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Markku gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Markku lands a big elbow - Smith is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Markku!
