Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sean Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Spezza!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spezza throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Griffin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spezza wants to improve his position but Griffin is controlling well.
Griffin wants to get back to his feet.
Spezza gets back to full guard.
Spezza manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Griffin manages to get himself to full guard.
Spezza postures up.

Griffin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Griffin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Griffin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Griffin thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Spezza is looking to improve his position but Griffin isn't that keen on the idea.

Spezza wants to hold on but Griffin pushes him away.

Spezza is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Griffin landing strikes, looking to finish!
Spezza tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Griffin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Spezza can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Griffin moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Spezza has worked his arm free - good work by Spezza!

Spezza regains half guard there - taking advantage of Griffin's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Griffin wants to pass to mount but Spezza is defending the position.
Griffin works his way into side control.
The ground and pound from Griffin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Spezza is not content to let Griffin control the position.
Spezza manages to work his way to half guard, despite Griffin's best efforts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Griffin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spezza circles away.
Spezza stuffs the takedown.
Spezza throws a body punch but Griffin moves out of range.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Griffin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spezza swivels and escapes.
Spezza throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Griffin looks to land a body kick but Spezza moved away.
Spezza fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Griffin shoots in and drives through. Spezza sprawls well.

Griffin drives through and clinches with Spezza against the cage.

Griffin pulls Spezza into guard.

Spezza controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Griffin controls Spezza momentarily but Spezza frees himself.
Spezza wanted to stand there but Griffin had control of the position.

Spezza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Spezza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griffin trying to keep a closed guard but Spezza is proving a slippery customer.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sean Griffin.
Griffin tries a head kick but it misses.
Sean Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffin takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Griffin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Griffin ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Spezza ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griffin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No luck for Griffin with that takedown attempt.
Spezza lands with a thumping leg kick.
and Spezza counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Griffin! He's just covering up as Spezza starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Spezza!
